The Video Club of the EU Cultural Circle (of the Institutions and Bodies of the European Union in Luxembourg) has announced the screening of the 1995 psychological thriller "Dolores Claiborne" at the Cinéfoyer, at the European Foyer (10 Rue Heinrich Heine) in Luxembourg-Gare on Wednesday 23 October 2024 at 19:30.
"Dolores Claiborne" is directed by Taylor Hackford and stars Kathy Bates, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Christopher Plummer in the leading roles.
Based on the novel by Stephen King, the film tells the story of housekeeper, Dolores Claiborne, who is accused of murdering her wealthy employer, Vera Donovan. Dolores' estranged daughter, Selena, reluctantly returns to help her mother, despite believing that Dolores was responsible for the death of Selena's father twenty years previously. Although the death was ruled accidental, Detective John Mackey, who led the investigation at the time, agrees with Selena and strongly believes that not only is Dolores responsible for her husband's death, but also that of Vera's. He is unyielding in his pursuit of Dolores.
The plot focuses on the strained relationship between mother and daughter, largely told through flashbacks, as old memories resurrect themselves and dark truths of the past are revealed, challenging perceptions of guilt and innocence.
The film has a running time of 2 hours and 12 minutes and will be shown in its English language version with French subtitles. Entrance is free and reservations can be made by email: linsterluc@gmail.com
