The Ciné-club hellénique de Luxembourg (Greek cinema club) has announced that it is screening the 2023 Greek film Medium at Ciné Utopia in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg on Tuesday 24 September 2024 at 19:00 and on Wednesday 25 September 2024 at 21:00.
Medium, (98 min, colour), directed by Christina Ioakeimidi, will be screened in cinema Utopia, in the original Greek version with English subtitles. The film is suitable for children over the age of sixteen.
Synopsis: Teenage Eleftheria, a stranger in a strange land, meets mysterious neighbour Angelos, who invites her into his grown-up world. Roaming the streets of the scorching hot city on his bike, she discovers her awakening sexuality.
Based on a novel by Giorgos Sibardis, the film follows sixteen-year-old Eleftheria, who escapes the suffocating reality of the Greek countryside to visit her pregnant sister in Athens. It is August, during a terrible heat wave, when most Athenians abandon the city, and Eleftheria feels likewise abandoned. She is still grieving the loss of her mother, while her sister is preoccupied with her pregnancy and her father has just started a new family back in the village.
Cast: Konstandinos Aspiotis, Angeliki Beveratou, Natasa Exintaveloni, Martha Fritzila, Nikos Zeginoglou and Katerina Zisoudi.
Director: Born in Athens, Christina Ioakeimidi has been passionate about photography from an early age. She pursued her interest by studying filmmaking at the London Film School, where she honed her skills in writing, directing and photography creating short films. Ioakeimidi's directorial debut, Harisma, which she wrote, directed and produced, premiered in Greece in 2010 and gained global recognition, having been featured in numerous international film festivals. In addition to her notable work in feature films, Ioakeimidi has also directed documentaries for Greek television networks.
