On Sunday 22 June 2025, the Luxembourg Tennis Federation (FLT) held the second edition of the National Pickleball Championship at the Tennis Club Howald.
Benoit Quisquater, President of the LWF Pickleball Commission, said in an interview with Chronicle.lu the tournament brought together 30 participants competing in three doubles categories: Ladies, Men’s and Mixed, as “there were not enough players for individual events.”
According to FLT, players competed in about forty matches before reaching the finals in each of the three categories. Enthusiastic spectators followed the action closely. For the first time, a certified referee, Kim Huble, recognised by both USA Pickleball (USAP) and the European Pickleball Federation, officiated the final matches.
Anne Grethen played a key role in securing two victories, winning the Ladies Doubles alongside Magdalena Kowalska and topping the Mixed Doubles category with Thomas Mert. All three players represented the Howald Pickleball Club.
Results of 2nd National Pickleball Championship:
Ladies Doubles - Anne Grethen & Magdalena Kowalska (Gold), Sandy Probst & Karolina Maniewski (Silver), Michèle Schweitzer & Andrea Wischermann (Bronze);
Men's Doubles - Fx Fontaine & Andreas Wischermann (Gold), Thomas Mert & Bernard Carlier (Silver), Pascal Gilles & Ricardo Almeida (Bronze);
Mixed doubles - Anne Grethen & Thomas Mert (Gold), Michèle Schweitzer & Pascal Pasciolla (Silver), Bernard Carlier & Magdalena Kowalska (Bronze).
According to the FLT, the competition also served as an opportunity to assess the potential of participating players, with the aim of forming a team to represent Luxembourg at the 2nd European Pickleball Championship, set to take place at Rome's Foro Italico from Friday 19 to Sunday 21 September 2025. The selection process is underway and the names are expected to be announced before Tuesday 15 July 2025.
