Luxembourg's Ministry of the Economy and the LCGB and OGBL trade unions have issued a joint statement on the future of Liberty Steel in the Grand Duchy.
The ministry and the unions said they had "taken note" of the Belgian public prosecutor's recent request for the revocation of Liberty Steel's restructuring plan for the Tilleur and Flémalle factories in Liège (Belgium).
It is now up to the Liège business court to rule on this request and ultimately on the potential dissolution of the Belgian entities of the Liberty Steel group.
After numerous legal, financial and economic rebounds concerning the Liberty Steel entities over the past twelve months, Luxembourg's Economy Ministry and the unions noted that the procedure initiated by the public prosecutor will "ultimately bring legal clarity" regarding the future of the Belgian sites.
On the Luxembourg side, the ministry and the unions will continue to "work actively together" to maintain steel activities and preserve jobs on the Dudelange site by "taking into consideration all possible options", including its takeover by another industrial player.
