The LCGB and OGBL trade unions have announced that their main focus will be job protection after the American group Celanese Corporation signed an agreement to take over DuPont Teijin Films factory and the Hytrel department.
DuPont announced in early December 2021 its intention to sell the DuPont Teijin Films factory as well as the Hytrel department at the Contern site.
On 18 February 20222, the DuPont management team notified the trade unions LCGB and OGBL that a buyer had been found and that an agreement had been signed with the Celanese Corporation.
As part of this meeting, the LCGB and OGBL unions stressed that the maintenance and continuation of all employment contracts as well as social agreements should be guaranteed. The management has assured that no layoffs will take place at DuPont or later at Celanese Corporation.
The sites are expected to operate independently from 1 October 2022. Details regarding the sale or structure of the Contern site are still unknown at this time. However, the management has undertaken, within the framework of social dialogue, to immediately communicate any additional information concerning the sale as soon as it becomes available.
The contracting unions also point out that the employees affected by the sale will continue to benefit from the guarantees of the current collective agreement and that no one will lose their social benefits.
Given that any restructuring in the context of the sale could have negative consequences for employment, the trade unions and the staff delegation said they would analyse the steps to be taken and would continue to accompany the sale and support the employees.
