Valorlux, the Luxembourg Trade Confederation (clc) and the Environment Agency have announced the launch of a new awareness campaign to encourage consumers to use and reuse their reusable Eco-sac and Superbag® shopping bags.

Whilst 79.1% of consumers in Luxembourg confirmed that they used reusable instead of single-use bags when shopping, consumers still too often forget their reusable bag and buy another one that will only be used a few times. With the objective of supporting and accompanying changes in behaviour and consumption habits by encouraging consumers to think about using and reuse reusable shopping bags, Valorlux, the clc and the Environment Agency aim to spread the following message: "Eco-bag and Superbag® - your bags for life. Reuse them. Again. And again".

In order to contribute to the prevention of plastic waste, the law of 21 March 2017 on packaging and packaging waste requires a sustainable reduction in the consumption of light plastic bags in Luxembourg. By 2025, the challenge will be to keep the annual consumption level of single-use plastic bags at a maximum of 40 bags per person per year. Currently, this stands at 30.26 lightweight single-use plastic bags per person per year. Valorlux, the clc and the Environment Agency have thus emphasised the need to continue to opt for reusable bags.

Since 2004, the Eco-bag has spared 1.1 billion single-use plastic bags (saving 7,763 tonnes of plastic or 17,265,121 litres of oil). Available at an affordable recommended rate from partner brands in the project, the Eco-bag remains exchangeable for free if it becomes too worn and therefore unusable. It is also recyclable. Entering the Luxembourg market in 2019, the Superbag®, the reusable bag for fruit and vegetables, follows the same model of robustness, affordable selling price, exchange conditions and recyclability.

As part of an environmental and socially responsible approach, nearly 70 brands now offer the Eco-bag and / or the Superbag® to their customers. In this regard, the awareness campaign also tends to highlight the partners of this project, some of whom have been present since its launch.
