The Luxembourg Durgotsav Association (LuxUtsav) has announced that it is organising its annual Durga Puja celebrations from Wednesday 9 October to Sunday 13 October 2024 at Salle Um Duerf in Itzig  (3 Rue de Hesperange).

This year marks the sixth year of the association bringing this vibrant Indian festival to Luxembourg.

Durga Puja, also known as Durgotsava or Sharodotsav, is an annual festival originating in the Indian subcontinent which reveres and pays homage to the Hindu goddess Durga; it is particularly celebrated in the Eastern Indian states of West Bengal, Tripura, Bihar, Jharkhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Odisha and by Hindus in Bangladesh. Durga Puja is a ten-day festival, of which the last five are the most significant.

With the theme ‘Gram’ (village), the venue will be decorated with artefacts and designs to give it a traditional village ambiance, celebrating the simplicity and charm of rural India. Visitors will be transported to a village setting, experiencing the rich heritage and essence of Indian culture. The grand celebration allows those attending to immerse themselves in the fragrance of Pushpa (flowers) and Chandan (sandalwood), while enjoying the food fiesta and cultural extravaganza.

Spread across five days, the celebrations will include devotional prayers, Indian street food, cultural performances and digital programmes.

Visitors are invited to experience the joy, warmth, and spirit of community at LuxUtsav 2024, celebrating Durga Puja, reconnecting with one's roots and experiencing the vibrant traditions of India in the heart of Luxembourg.
