On Thursday 2 October 2025, the Grand Ducal Police provided information and guidance regarding the three-day "Trounwiessel" ("throne change") celebrations which will begin on Friday 3 October 2025.

On Friday 3, Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 October 2025, various ceremonies and festivities will take place in connection with the accession to the throne Grand Duke Guillaume. The police have reiterated they will oversee the events with an appropriate security operation to ensure the smooth running of the celebrations and to maintain public order in Luxembourg City, as well as in the other communes visited.

The police said the security operation is designed to guarantee the safety of everyone during the celebrations. Therefore, officers will be present at key locations and times to assist visitors and participants and to intervene if necessary.

The police call on visitors to remain vigilant, particularly with regard to pickpockets. Preventive advice on this matter is available at https://police.public.lu/fr/prevention/vols.html.

The police also requested that any suspicious person, object or behaviour be reported to the police officers present on site or by dialling the police emergency number (113) and objects (bags, backpacks etc.) should not be left unattended in public spaces.

Traffic monitoring will also form part of the police’s duties, with the aim of ensuring smooth traffic flow at key moments of the festivities. Modifications are planned regarding traffic, parking, car parks and public transport at various locations. Details can be found on the City of Luxembourg (VDL) website at https://www.vdl.lu/fr/actualites/week-end-du-trounwiessel-planifiez-vos-deplacements-en-ville.
