The Grand Ducal Police have reported that on the afternoon of Wednesday 27 August 2025, they undertook a large-scale inspection on public transport in Luxembourg City.
According to the police, the operation focused on drug and immigration legislation, as well as maintaining a visible police presence both on public transport and at stops and surrounding areas. Officers concentrated their efforts particularly on the tram line between the Central Station and the Glacis. In total, police checked 62 people.
During the inspection, officers issued a paid warning and drew up a report for violating drug legislation. In four cases, officers recorded notes under immigration law. One person was transferred to the Detention Centre because they were staying illegally in the Grand Duchy and had breached immigration legislation.
At the Hamilius tram and bus terminus, one person tried to escape an inspection. Officers had observed suspicious swallowing movements and during a check discovered several packets of cannabis. A subsequent body scan confirmed their suspicion and, acting on the instructions of the public prosecutor, officers arrested the suspected drug dealer.
A total of seventeen officers and the police dog unit took part in the inspection.
