On Wednesday 16 October 2024, the Grand Ducal Police issued a warning after a series of car thefts.

The police said they had recently received reports of the theft of several high-quality Land Rover vehicles, namely the Range Rover model, which were first registered in 2023. These thefts took place at night in residential areas. The vehicles were parked both on public roads and in garage driveways in front of houses.

The police noted that, in order to open the vehicle, the perpetrators have to gain access to the vehicle's electronics. The perpetrators often cut a hole in the body to get to the cables behind it. Anyone who discovers such damage, even hidden behind a panel or identification plate, is asked to contact the police.

Recently, other high-quality vehicles have also been stolen.

The police have advised motorists to protect themselves against vehicle theft by taking precautions such as:

- park the vehicle in a closed garage if possible;

- choose a safe, well-lit and not isolated parking location (in the case of no garage);

- if possible, protect the vehicle with a steering wheel lock.

The police said its criminal investigation department is actively working on these thefts and made one arrest after catching a perpetrator in the act last week.
