The Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) has reported that it set up a contingency plan to ensure the smooth running of Pope Francis' official visit to Luxembourg on Thursday 26 September 2024.

This plan was also aimed at ensuring the safety of participants and spectators, as well as operational coverage in and around Luxembourg City.

The CGDIS thus took the following measures:

- reinforcement of the 112 emergency rescue call centre (CSU-112);
- activation of the operations management centre (CGO);
- reinforcement of operational coverage of Luxembourg City;
- barracking of neighbouring fire and rescue centres;
- implementation of a specific plan in and around the event.

A total of 130 volunteer and professional firefighters were mobilised for the visit. The operational report following the Pope's visit showed that the emergency services treated nine people with minor injuries, two of whom were taken to hospital.
