On Tuesday 9 July 2024, Luxembourg's Ministry of State and the Maison du Grand-Duc announced that Prince Guillaume, Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg would be designated Lieutenant-Representative (Lieutenant-Représentant) of the Grand Duke on Tuesday 8 October 2024.

Following the public announcement made by Grand Duke Henri during his National Day speech on 23 June 2024, the relevant authorities have confirmed that the designation of the Hereditary Grand Duke as Lieutenant-Representative will take place in the afternoon of 8 October.

The signing of the Grand Ducal decree of appointment by Grand Duke Henri will take place at the Grand Ducal Palace in Luxembourg-Ville. It will be followed by the swearing-in of Prince Guillaume before the Chamber of Deputies (Luxembourg's parliament), as provided for by the Constitution.

Grand Duke Henri himself previously served as Lieutenant-Representative for two and a half years before his father, Grand Duke Jean,  abdicated in October 2000. It is not yet known how long Prince Guillaume's lieutenancy will last.
