On Saturday 6 July 2024, the Grand Ducal Police announced that around 60 cases of disturbances of the peace, disputes and other arguments were reported across the country.
The incidents occurred between 22:00 on Friday 5 July 2024 and 06:00 on Saturday 6 July 2024. In most cases, the situation had calmed down by the time the officers arrived or the matter could be resolved on the spot.
However, an argument was reported in a flat in Dudelange at around midnight. The officers were able to find two people on-site, one of whom was reportedly heavily intoxicated. An illegal folding knife was found on him, which was confiscated.
The man was then asked to leave the flat, which he did after some discussion. Once outside, nevertheless, he refused to calm down and staggered across the street. As he was deemed to pose a danger to himself and others, the police forces decided to place him under arrest after a medical examination. He continued to struggle, tried to damage the holding cell and insulted the officers, the police noted. A report was drawn up accordingly.
Another incident occurred a few hours later in Rue Aldringen in Luxembourg City. There was an altercation between two groups of people, with one of the participants allegedly displaying a knife.
Based on the description and a manhunt, a suspect was apprehended nearby. During the subsequent body search at the police station, three folding knives were confiscated. The man was taken to the detention centre by order of the public prosecutor's office. One person was slightly injured in the altercation and taken to hospital, the police added.
