On Wednesday 28 February 2024, Luxembourg's Ministry of Home Affairs, together with the Ministry of State and the High Commission for National Protection (HCPN), undertook an unannounced test of the zonal alert SMS across the municipalities of Troisvierges, Weiswampach, Wincrange, Clervaux, Parc Hosingen, Putscheid and Vianden.

The zonal alert SMS tests are not communicated in advance, which allows mobile network operators to be put in a real situation facing an event triggering the imminent and spontaneous alert of the population.

According to the ministry, it is important to note that only people whose cell phones were connected to a cell phone base station in the aforementioned area at the time the alert was issued received the following SMS: “LU-ALERT / TEST ALERT / NO ACTION REQUIRED / NO ACTION REQUIRED / KEINE HANDLUNG ERFORDERLICH”.

Additional information and frequently asked questions are available on the National Alert System website (https://maint.gouvernement.lu/en/dossiers/2022/lu-alert.html).
