The City of Luxembourg (Ville de Luxembourg - VdL) has praised a local bus driver for his efforts in helping a man who recently set himself on fire at Royal Hamilius.

On Thursday 10 February 2022, Lydie Polfer, Mayor of the City of Luxembourg, and Serge Wilmes, first alderman, on behalf of the College of Aldermen and the Municipal Council, received Fernand Collet, a bus driver working for the Autobus de la Ville de Luxembourg (AVL) city bus network for the past eight years, to thank him for his "act of courage and good citizenship" in coming to the aid of a man who set himself on fire at Royal Hamilius two days earlier.

Shortly after 09:10 on Tuesday 8 February 2022, the Grand Ducal Police received reports of the incident on Boulevard Royal near the Hamilius tram stop in Luxembourg City. A man had allegedly set himself on fire; the fire was put out by Mr Collet. After receiving first aid at the scene, the individual was taken to hospital.
