According to details unveiled by Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs on Thursday 20 august 2020, the number of people applying for international protection (asylum) in Luxembourg in June 2020 stood at 94, up from 39 the previous month but down significantly from 133 in July 2019.

A total of 276 decisions on asylum applications were taken during July 2020, with 199 applicants being granted international protection in Luxembourg, with 44 being refused. To date this year, 441 applicants have been granted asylum in Luxembourg, against 653 at the same time last year.

A total of 537 applications for asylum have been received so far this year, compared to 1,196 at this stage last year. The largest number of applicants seeking asylum in 2020 to date came from Syria (121), followed by Eritrea (73) and Afghanistan (55).
