The Grand Ducal Police have reported that a brawl took place outside a bar in Esch-sur-Alzette on Sunday evening; the incident resulted in two men being placed in sobering cells.

At around 23:00 on Sunday, a police patrol went to an establishment on Rue du Brill in Esch-sur-Alzette to talk to the manager. On site, the officers found several guests in front of the bar, some of whom did not comply with the applicable COVID-19 health regulations. When trying to enter the restaurant, a customer tried to block the police's entry and physically pushed one of the officers.

Whilst the police spoke to the manager, the man from before got involved in a fight in front of the bar. The police intervened immediately, but could not prevent a major scuffle between some of the customers present. Reinforcements had to be requested. During the intervention, the officers were assaulted by two or three other people and used pepper spray to defend themselves.

One customer eventually drew a knife. Both he and the man who allegedly started the fight were detained. Following a medical examination, which concluded that the two individuals posed a risk to themselves and others, both men were placed in sobering cells and the incident was recorded.
