The number of people applying for international protection (asylum) in Luxembourg in June 2020 stood at 39, up from eighteen the previous month but down significantly from 124 in June 2019.

A total of 141 decisions on asylum applications were taken during June 2020, with 97 applicants being granted international protection in Luxembourg. Of the 39 applicants last month, nine came from Syria, five each from Afghanistan and Iraq and 20 from other destinations.

A total of 443 applications for asylum have been received so far this year. The largest number of applicants seeking asylum in 2020 to date came from Syria (95), followed by Eritrea (61) and Venezuela (38).
