On Monday 5 August 2024, Luxembourg's Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Viticulture issued an advice addressing animal welfare during the current summer heat from the Luxembourg Veterinary and Food Administration (ALVA); the advice reminds owners of domestic, livestock and breeding animals of a series of good practices, in order to guarantee animal welfare:

- animals must have water in sufficient quantity and quality at their disposal at all times;
- animals must not be abandoned, even for a short period of time, in parked vehicles exposed to the sun;
- animals may not be forced to do excessive physical exercise during the hot hours of the day;
- in the event of a heatwave for a prolonged period, animals kept outside must have adequate natural or artificial shelter in order to be able to protect themselves from the sun.

In case of doubt, any citizen can contact the new contact point by email: help@deier.lu dedicated to questions relating to animal welfare as well as reporting animal neglect.
