On Tuesday 8 April 2025, Luxembourg's women's national football team secured their third consecutive group stage victory in the UEFA Nations League.

Daniel Santos' team, which had collected seven points from three matches in Group C3 and sat in first place, played their fourth match away against group outsiders Liechtenstein. While the home game had ended in a 7-0 victory for Luxembourg, the return fixture in Eschen proved to be more challenging.

The Red Lionesses secured an early two-goal advantage in the opening stages of the match. Both goals came from Amy Thompson, who first found the net in the 11th minute after connecting with a low cross from Caroline Jorge. Three minutes later, she doubled the lead by capitalising on a defensive error by Liechtenstein.

These goals marked Amy Thompson’s fourth and fifth in the group stage, making her the team’s top scorer in this UEFA Nations League campaign.

The 0-2 scoreline held until the 31st minute, when Katharina Risch, on a counterattack, took a shot from distance and lobbed Joy Jung to bring Liechtenstein back into the game. The score remained unchanged at half-time.

At the start of the second half, the visitors created several chances but were unable to beat the opposing goalkeeper. Then, in the 61st minute, home forward Naomi Kindle restored parity, connecting with a cross from the left wing with a diving header to make it 2-2.

Luxembourg increased the pressure, with Jorge coming close again in the 71st minute – her powerful long-range strike was tipped onto the crossbar by the goalkeeper.

However, in the 77th minute, the Red Lionesses eventually regained the lead, when Joana Lourenço Magalhães broke down the right and delivered a precise cross to the far post, where Caroline Jorge finished to make it 2-3. Liechtenstein came close to equalising again in the 85th minute, after Emma Kremer inadvertently deflected a free kick towards her own goal, but Andreia Machado was well positioned to clear the ball off the line.

The victory cemented Luxembourg's position at the top of Group C3 in the UEFA Nations League with ten points. Their closest challenger, Kazakhstan, who defeated Armenia 3-2 away in the parallel fixture, sits on seven points. Daniel Santos’ team will play their next match at home on Friday 30 May 2025 against Armenia.
