On Thursday 12 and Friday 13 September 2024, Luxembourg's Finance Minister Gilles Roth participated in the Eurogroup and Economic and Financial Affairs Council (Ecofin) meetings in Budapest, Hungary.
During the first meetings of Finance Ministers after the summer break, the Eurogroup discussed economic and budgetary developments in Europe.
The ministers discussed with Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, ways to support financing for low-income countries in the context of current global challenges.
At the Ecofin Council, financing the green transition was discussed based on a presentation by Mathias Cormann, Secretary-General of the OECD. The last session focused on the challenges related to demographic ageing.
Hungary holds the presidency of the Ecofin Council from July to December 2024.
On the sidelines of the meetings, Minister Roth also met his Belgian counterpart, Vincent Van Peteghem, to discuss bilateral issues.
