Luxembourg's Ministry of State and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade have reported that Prime Minister Luc Frieden and Deputy Prime Minister Xavier Bettel will attend the 2024 NATO Summit in Washington, DC in the United States this week.

As part of the NATO Summit and on the occasion of the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Alliance, Luxembourg's Prime Minister, Luc Frieden, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Xavier Bettel, will travel to Washington from Tuesday 9 to Thursday 11 July 2024.

On the summit's agenda are NATO's deterrence and collective defence efforts, as well as NATO financing and burden sharing. The summit will also discuss the future of the defence industry in the Euro-Atlantic area, and the coordination and sustainability of military support from NATO and the Allies for the benefit of Ukraine. Another priority of the summit concerns NATO partnerships, particularly with the European Union and countries in the Indo-Pacific.

Luxembourg's Minister of Defence, Yuriko Backes, will not be attending the Washington Summit due to a broken tibia (sustained on 30 June 2024).
