From Monday 6 to Wednesday 8 March 2023, Luxembourg's Minister of Equality between Women and Men, Taina Bofferding, is attending the 67th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York (United States).

The CSW is the annual meeting for political actors to discuss the situation and the development of women's rights and equality around the world.

This year, the priority theme is digital equality. According to Luxembourg's Ministry of Equality between Women and Men, Minister Bofferding has been consulting with her EU counterparts on combatting the new forms of gender-based violence that digitalisation may proliferate. The transition to the digital age brings with it, according to the ministry, the major challenge of rendering Information and Communication Technology (ICT) an opportunity for all.

"Ensuring a place for women in innovation and technological change is not only a question of equity and not only a question of fairness and equality, but also a necessity for jobs and economic growth," said Minister Bofferding in her speech to the General Assembly of the CSW.

The Luxembourg minister also took part in a round table on good practices to overcome barriers and reduce the gender wage gap. She called for "equipping women and girls and avoiding gender stereotyping in the field of employment in the digital field and to fight against algorithmic discrimination".

The Minister of Equality between Women and Men met with UN Women Deputy Executive Director Anita Bhatia for an exchange on the ongoing work and specific challenges in the field of equality and women's rights.

In this context, Anita Bhatia thanked Luxembourg for its long-standing cooperation in regard to women’s rights, which was strengthened in 2022 with the signing of the first framework agreement with UN Women.
