The Luxembourg American Cultural Society (LACS), based in Wisconsin in the United States, has announced the launch of "Let's Talk Luxembourg", an online programme series starting on Thursday 9 March 2023 at 11:00 with a talk on "UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Luxembourg".
Patrick Dondelinger, Head Researcher of Intangible Cultural Heritage for the Luxembourg Ministry of Culture, will explore the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Luxembourg within the framework of the 20th anniversary of the 2003 UNESCO Convention for safeguarding the intangible cultural heritage.
Some notable Luxembourgish traditions to be addressed in the talk include annual events such as the Schueberfouer, the Eimaischen (Easter market) and the Hopping Procession of Echternach, as well as other intangible cultural heritage, namely midwifery, traditions surrounding St. Nicholas and the skills involved in the art of dry-stone walling.
This first event will be an opportunity to find out how UNESCO determines what intangible cultural heritage will be preserved for future generations and what steps are taken to protect it.
This programme is free for LACS members and $15 for non-members.
