Luxembourg's Marc Angel was elected to the position on the second ballot, having gone up against French MEP Gwendoline Delbos-Corfield and Italian MEP Annalisa Tardino.

Marc Angel, who (like his predecessor, Eva Kaili) is a member of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, secured 307 of the 590 votes cast in the second voting round; Annalisa Tardino received 185 votes, whilst Gwendoline Delbos-Corfield received 98.

Marc Angel represents the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP) in the Grand Duchy and is one of six Luxembourg MEPs.
