The Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (Corps grand-ducal d'incendie et de secours - CGDIS) has announced that the Cattenom nuclear power plant production unit No 2 was shut down on the night of Friday 24 to Saturday 25 June 2022.
According to EDF, the operator of the Cattenom nuclear power plant, this intervention allowed the teams to work on a ventilation system in the reactor building which has an insufficient flow rate. The shut down of unit No 2 was a preventive outage and the reactor safety systems were fully available and operating correctly during the intervention.
The other production units continued their industrial programme, with unit No. 1 being already shut down for refueling and the performance of nearly 12,000 maintenance activities, while portions of piping on an auxiliary circuit to the main primary circuit on production units No 3 and No 4 were subject to expert inspection.
EDF operates 29 nuclear reactors in France to produce and supply the electricity network as well as carries out electricity imports. The Cattenom nuclear power plant production units' planned shut down has no risk on electricity production in France.
