The Luxembourg Maritime Administration (Commissariat aux affaires maritimes) of the Ministry of the Economy has reported that a ship flying the Luxembourg flag was the target of a pirate attack in the Gulf of Guinea yesterday.

On Sunday 14 March 2021, pirates attacked the "Bourbon Evolution 802" in international waters off Nigeria. The 21-strong ship crew immediately sounded the alarm and took refuge in the reinforced "citadel", in accordance with security procedures. This space offers protection to personnel during such an attack.

Two patrol ships operating in the region were able to quickly intervene and take back the attacked vessel, forcing the ten or so pirates to flee and allowing the crew to escape unscathed.

The Bourbon Group informed the Luxembourg authorities of this attack. The latter confirmed that they had followed the development of the situation until the release of the crew, through regular contact with the shipowner and the French authorities.
