Luxembourg's Ministry of Justice has announced the government's decision to put forward Dean Spielmann as a candidate for the role of Advocate General at the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU).

Under Article 253 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, a partial renewal of CJEU judges and advocates general takes place every three years.

In this context, Luxembourg is required to submit a candidate for the position of Luxembourg Advocate General at the CJEU.

A call for applications was launched on 28 June 2023 and a national selection committee was set up by the ministerial decree of 18 September 2023.

The national selection committee held interviews with the candidates in October 2023 and proposed that the government appoint Dean Spielmann as CJEU Advocate General.

The government subsequently accepted the candidacy of Dean Spielmann for this position.
