The Grand Ducal Police have reported that they became aware of several motorists drunk driving during the night on Friday 15 March 2024, leading to several driving license confiscations.

At around 05:30, the police carried out a speed check on the Route de Niederkorn in Pétange, when they became aware of a vehicle driving past the checkpoint at excessive speed. Following a pursuit, a police patrol successfully intercepted the vehicle. An initial alcohol test was positive, which prompted the driver to be transported to the local police station for further assessment. Due to showing significant resistance and verbally abusive behaviour towards the officers, the driver's driving license was confiscated, and a formal complaint was filed, including charges of verbal assault against police officers.

At approximately 05:00, police officers noticed a vehicle parked in a no-parking zone, later found to have violated traffic regulations twice. The driver, who was intoxicated, had their license confiscated, and a report was filed.

Earlier, around 03:00, the police noticed a vehicle driving in the wrong direction through the René Konen tunnel (known as the Saint Esprit Tunnel) in Luxembourg-Ville. Following a positive alcohol test, the driver's license was seized, and a report was drawn up.

Around 01:30, police observed a vehicle speeding between Hollerich and Merl. The driver, found to be intoxicated, had their license confiscated, and a report was submitted.

Another driver's license was confiscated at 01:30 after police noticed a vehicle swerving erratically. This driver was also under the influence of alcohol.

Additionally, another driver's license was confiscated near Esch-sur-Sûre at 19:00, also due to drunk driving. The vehicle, reportedly swerving on the road, also lost a tyre during the incident.

Furthermore, various alcohol checks were conducted throughout the night on Friday in Frisange and Dudelange. In Frisange, 107 drivers were checked between 11:00 and 00:15. In three cases, the tests were positive, which led to a warning being issued and two reports filed. One driver’s licence was confiscated on the spot.

In Dudelange, 99 drivers were tested between 01:15 and 03:15. In four cases, the test results were positive. One warning and three reports were issued and one driver's license was confiscated on-site.
