Veronika Podrez won the final of the ITF W15 women's tournament at the Centre National de Tennis (CNT) in Esch-sur-Alzette on Sunday 14 January 2024.
The young Ukrainian tennis player prevailed in Sunday's final with 6:4, 6:3 against Carolina Kuhl from Germany. The latter had prevailed in the semi-finals with 6:3, 6:3 against Belgian opponent Tilwith Di Girolami, whilst seventeen-year-old Veronika Podrez had defeated Austria's Tamara Kostic 6:2, 4:6, 6:1.
Veronika Podrez commented after her victory on Sunday that "it was not an easy match", adding that she had played against a "good" opponent and was pleased to have gotten the new year off to a good start.
Her WTA Singles Ranking as of 8 January 2024 is 496; her current ITF Singles Ranking is 76.
On Saturday 13 January 2024, twins Tayisiya and Yana Morderger won the W15 doubles final at the CNT. The German players prevailed with 6:2, 6:3 against Josy Daems (also from Germany) and Anastasia Firman (Ukraine).
Tayisiya Morderger is currently (as of 8 January 2024) 753rd in the WTA Singles Ranking; Yana Morderger ranks 681st.
The ITF W15 ($15,000 prize money) brought together Luxembourgish and international tennis talents at CNT from Sunday 7 to Sunday 14 January 2024. It followed the ITF M25 ($25,000 prize money) men's tournament, hosted at CNT from Sunday 31 December 2023 to Sunday 7 January 2024. The men's singles winner was Jacob Fearnley from the United Kingdom.
