Today, on Wednesday 10 January 2018, Luxembourg Interior Minister Dan Kersch discussed past and future reforms at the traditional New Year reception at the Ministry of Interior.

At its traditional New Year's reception, the Ministry of the Interior welcomed, in addition to officials from the Ministry of the Interior, representatives of Syvicol, FGFC, OGBL, LCGB, FNCTTFEL Landesverband and Syprolux, as well as delegations from the National Federation of Firefighters, the Committee of Elders and the Administration of Rescue Services.

During his retrospective of 2017, Minister Kersch first spoke of the implementation of the municipal finance reform which has reached its objectives, namely, the improved stability of municipal finances and a balance of disparities between the cities.

The minister also mentioned the entry into force of the reform in the communal public service at the level of general status and salaries while welcoming the three new municipalities resulting from mergers of municipalities.

Turning to forecasts for the year 2018, the Minister announced, among other things, the implementation of the reform of the legislation regarding Church infrastructure and especially the reform of the rescue services. The creation of a Grand-Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) as a new structure for the reception of emergency services will enable an integrated, effective and efficient management of all aspects concerning the organisation of rescue services.
