Following an excellent 2015 season, the forthcoming cricket season is eagerly anticipated by all at Optimists Criket Club (OCC) in Luxembourg with the club celebrating its 40th anniversary and several exciting competitions and events in prospect.
With OCC being founded in 1976, the club is very much looking forward to celebrating its 40th anniversary on 23 July 2016. There will be numerous events around this time to celebrate the club, and all that has happened to over the years. More details regarding the schedule of events will be announced in the near future.
The traditional season-opening match between the Captain’s XI and the Chairman’s XI will take place next Saturday 23 April 2016.
In 2015, OCC were crowned Division 2 Champions in the Belgian Cricket League (45-over matches) and will be looking to defend this title in 2016 - OCC were not promoted to Division 1 due to a re-structuring of the league. The side will be playing 5 matches away from home and 5 at the Pierre Werner Cricket Ground in Walferdange. Support for the side is always well appreciated and, weather permitting, there is usually a BBQ to keep spectators well nourished.
Following a 2-year hiatus from the Belgian Cricket League T20 tournament, OCC will be returning this season and will hope to emulate their excellent performance in this tournament from previous years.
On top of participating in the domestic Luxembourg Cricket League, the Optimists will also be hosting a wide array of friendly fixtures against sides from across Europe (Germany, Switzerland, France and the UK) and will once again be hosting the annual 6-a-side tournament on 2-3 July 2016.
Following the departure from Luxembourg of several members in recent years, the club is excited to welcome a wealth of newly-arrived talent to the Club and would welcome any other players (all levels of skill and experience) interested in joining the club (there are no membership fees for the first year of a new member). OCC training takes place each Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 18:30, with matches taking place at week-ends until the end of the season in September.
