Details: Luxembourg National Road Safety Day
Luxembourg's Minister of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, François Bausch, has launched a National Day of Road Safety dedicated to promoting safety for all road users within the framework of the national action plan, a priority of the government.
This day will be held in 26 September 2016 in the presence of Minister Bausch, from 17:00 to 19:00 at the Driving Training Centre in Sanem and will focus on the theme of "30km/h Zones". The Ministry of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure (MDDI), in collaboration with the road safety authority, the training centre for drivers, Syvicol and the Luxembourg police, will conduct workshops on electric cars and bicycles for the general public to participate free of charge.
The details are as follows:
1- Driving exercises will be using 3 different modes of transport (car, electric car and electric bike). The workshop is aimed to maintain 30 km/h. The organisers mask the cars' speedometers and ask drivers to drive at 30 km/h.
2- Braking exercises at 30 km/h and 50 km/h. The workshop is aimed to demonstrate the difference in terms of braking distance. Participants will drive at these two speeds. After the first pass at 30 km/h when the driver is asked to stop suddenly, an obstacle will be placed at the spot where the car came to a rest. During the second pass at 50 km/h, a collision with the obstacle will be inevitable.
3- An artificial 30 km/h speed zone (with radar) will be set up on the road leading to the entrance of the Training Centre. Visitors will be confronted with the 30 km/h theme as soon as they arrive on site.
