On Saturday 23 May 2026, Atert Bissen defeated current Luxembourg champions FC Differdange 03 on the final matchday of the BGL Ligue season to secure the 2025/2026 league title in front of 3,169 spectators at the Klengbousbierg Stadium.
The two teams entered the decisive final-day encounter separated by three points in favour of FC Differdange 03, meaning only a victory would be enough for Atert Bissen to claim the title. Both teams created a few early opportunities, although neither managed to register a shot on target. In the fourteenth minute, Theo Brusco headed over the bar following a corner delivery.
A key moment came in the 35th minute when Atert goalkeeper Yassine Gourari produced two saves to keep the score level. Bissen immediately launched a counter-attack which sent Khalid Abi Ramzi through on goal, but Felipe managed to deny the forward from a tight angle inside the penalty area.
The hosts threatened again a few minutes later when league top scorer Roman Ferber attempted an effort from the edge of the box, although his shot lacked power. Just before the break, Boris Mfoumou dribbled past his marker and fired over the crossbar as the teams went into half-time level at 0-0.
Atert Bissen found the breakthrough early in the second half. Following a corner delivery, Louis Marasi rose highest inside the penalty area and headed home from close range to beat Felipe and make it 1-0.
FC Differdange 03 pushed for an equaliser and appeared to have found one in the 64th minute after a free-kick delivery, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Five minutes later, Yassine Gourari produced another important save as the visitors continued to apply pressure in the closing stages.
However, the Atert goalkeeper remained composed to help his side secure a 1-0 victory and clinch the Luxembourg championship title.
League top scorer Roman Ferber, who finished the campaign with 21 goals in 21 matches, told Chronicle.lu: “It means a lot. We’ve been working for ten months. At the beginning, of course, we didn’t think about the title, but week by week, win by win, we realised we could achieve great things together.”
The striker also highlighted the significance of the achievement for the club and its supporters: “We were playing in the second division last year, so of course this means a lot for everyone. Everybody can find something in our story, because the little one can become the big one.”
In the battle for the bronze medals, US Mondorf-Les-Bains secured a goalless away draw against UNA Strassen, which finished two points behind in fourth place. As a result, Mondorf and FC Differdange 03 qualified for the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers.
At the other end of the table, Titus Pétange and FC Rodange 91 were relegated from the BGL Ligue. Jeunesse Canach and FC Mamer 32 will contest the relegation play-offs to determine their place in next season’s top flight.
