The number of salaried employees in Luxembourg increased by 0.9% in the last quarter of 2016, bringing the figure for the year up to an increase of 3.3%, according to figures released by national statistics agency, STATEC.

The main sectors driving that growth remain specialised activities and support services, mainly accountancy and temporary work agencies, which are up 5.8% over the year, as well as information and communication, mainly in computer programming and computer consultancy services, which are up 4.8%.

These two branches, which account for 20% of paid employment, account for 39.8% of net job creation between the fourth quarter of 2015 and the fourth quarter of 2016.

The number of cross-border workers in paid employment has grown a little faster than among residents, at 4.1% compared to 2.6% for locals. Within Luxembourg, the number of workers from the European Union grew by 3.3%, and from outside Europe by 9.9%.
