The Luxembourg Ministry of the Economy and the European Space Agency (ESA) have concluded an agreement which aims to provide young graduates in the Grand Duchy with their first professional experience in the aerospace sector.

Entitled "Luxembourgish Young Graduate Trainees" (LuxYGT), the programme will provide successful applicants with valuable experience qualifying them for diverse positions in the space industry, renowned research institutes and at the ESA. Throughout their work, interns will receive the support of an experienced tutor in the form of a staff member from the ESA.

"Internationally-renowned for hosting, with SES, one of the world's largest satellite operators, the national aerospace sector is an example of Luxembourg's engagement in favour of diversification and innovation in advanced techologies," commented Luxembourg Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy, Étienne Schneider. "This additional training provided by the ESA allows young graduates to acquire high-tech work experience which will be an asset for their future careers. Through initiatives like SpaceResources.lu, we are continuing to support the economic development of innovative activities in the space and satellite industries, considered key sectors in Luxembourg."

The LuxYGT programme is targeting graduates with Luxembourg nationality who have obtained their Bachelor or Master degree in the last two years. Students in the final year of their Master may also apply. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to fill positions for a period of 12 months with a possible extension of a further 12 months. The monthly net pay is around €2,200, which includes health and accident insurance.

ESA has centres assuming clear responsibilities in different European countries. Positions currently available within the LuxYGT programme are at the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC), based in Noordwijk, the Netherlands; and at the European Space Operations Centre located in Darmstadt, Germany.

Details of the 14 internship offers at the ESA as well as information on how to apply is available here. The deadline for the submission of applications via the address luxygt@eco.etat.lu is the 8 July 2016.
