The University of Luxembourg has coordinated the establishment of a common online language learning network - a new project bringing together the Language Centres of the six universities of the Greater Region (Luxembourg universities, Kaiserslautern, Liège, Lorraine, Saar and Trier).

The offer is open to all UniGR University students wishing to do an exchange semester in a German-speaking or French-speaking area, as well as to any student from outside the Greater Region who would come to study - with his/her exchange in one of the six UniGR universities.

The training consists of two modes of accompaniment. Before their departure, future exchange students will be virtually connected to each other via the Moodle platform. They will be able to exchange information and practice the target language. Using this same platform, they will also participate in a learning path divided into five themes aiming to give them key information about their host university (administrative steps, life in society and academic life) and to prepare their exchange.

The semester abroad will be framed by two retreats of two days each. On these occasions, students will be able to take stock of what they have learned from the educational pathway, their exchange and trigger a reflection on ways to study from one site to another.

The virtual centre was opened on 1 October 2017, and a first pilot phase of the educational path will take place from 15 April to July 2018 with students from the universities of Trier and Liège. The educational platform will be operational for all candidate students in October 2018. Registration for the first retreat in January 2019 can be done via one of the Language Centres of the Greater Region.
"The project aims to support students, motivate them to take advantage of the chance to have four countries within a radius of 200 km² and thus to deepen their linguistic and intercultural skills as part of their studies," explained Eve Lejot of the Language Centre of the University of Luxembourg and coordinator of the project. "Together we have created a great synergy between the six language centres and the launch of the platform is very promising."

Funded over a period of 25 months by the Erasmus+ programme for €180,000 for all partners, the project benefits from the expertise and support of UniGR as a key partner associated with the project.
