The next seed distributions at and guided tours of the “Klouschtergaart” are scheduled for the coming weeks.

The Klouschtergaart, a terraced garden located at the foot of the Bock Rock in the Grund Valley in Luxembourg City, aims to reintroduce the plants of yesteryear and preserve the rare crops traditionally grown in Luxembourg.

Thanks to the special microclimate at the foot of the Bock, these traditional useful plants thrive. In addition, thanks to a selection process, they become more and more resistant and are therefore particularly well adapted to the Luxembourg climate.

By harvesting seeds of rare species, the Ville de Luxembourg (VdL) contributes to the preservation of these plants over time. For several years now, the Parks Service has been distributing the harvested seeds free of charge (within the limits of available stock), thus encouraging the reintroduction of traditional crops in school gardens as well as in private gardens.

The next seed distributions at Klouschtergaart (access via Plaetis Street, no guided tours) are planned for Thursdays 22 February, 22 March, 29 March and 26 April 2018, from 11:00-13:00

Guided tours aimed at raising awareness about traditional agrobiodiversity will take place on Thursday 26 July and Thursday 23 August 2018 at 11:00. Each tour lasts about two hours. Interested parties are requested to register via tel.: +352 4796-2867 (Monday to Friday, 8:30-16:00). Guided tours are free but the number of participants per visit is limited to 25.

The VdL also offers free guided tours by appointment. Interested persons or groups can contact the Parks Department via tel.: +352 4796-2867 (Monday to Friday, 8:30-16:00) to schedule an appointment.
