On Saturday evening at the CK Sport Centre in Kockelscheuer, Carina Witthoeft (from Hamburg in Germany) won the 2017 BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open tennis championship by defeating Monica Puig (Pur) in the final by 6-3, 7-5.

Winning my first WTA title feels unbelievable,” Witthoeft said afterwards. “I’m so happy now, it’s been a tough week, a tough final today. I’m just happy. To play the last tournament of the season and finish the season winning your first title is just perfect.”

In Friday's semi-finals, Carina Witthoeft overcame Pauline Parmentier (Frace) 7-6, 1-6, 6-3, while Monica Puig triumphed over Elise Mertens (Belgium) 6-2, 7-5.

In the doubles tournament, Lesley KERKHOVE (NL) and Lidziya MAROZAVA (Blr) defeated Eugenie BOUCHARD (Can) and Kirsten FLIPKENS (Bel), 6-7, 6-4, 10-6
