According to STATEC, Luxembourg's national statistical office, adults in the Grand Duchy participate more in adult education activities than the European Union average.

In the face of rapid advances in knowledge and technology, lifelong learning is considered to be of paramount importance in today's education systems.

STATEC found that 50% of adults aged between 25 and 64 in Luxembourg participated in adult education (or lifelong learning) activities (EU average: 46.6%).

The new report by STATEC highlighted that 11.2% of adults aged 25 to 64 have participated in at least one "formal" education activity (i.e. leading to a diploma recognised in the national education system), whilst 45.5% have participated in a "non-formal" education activity. Participation in lifelong learning was found to be highest among younger people and those with a higher level of education.

Training programmes in the fields of commerce, administration and law were the most in demand, according to STATEC. 23% of formal education activities and 15% of non-formal education activities were linked to these fields.

STATEC also reported that remote training activities rose sharply between 2016 and 2022. Concerning non-formal education, online activities increased from 9% to 41% during this period.
