Rugby Club Luxembourg (RCL) Junior Touch recently competed in their first Luxembourg-based International Junior Touch rugby tournament in Luxembourg-Cessange.

Despite the freezing cold, the 75 players from RCL Lightning, Strasbourg Touch and Brussels Buffaloes soon warmed up playing touch rugby in three mixed-age group divisions: U9, U12 and U15.

Touch rugby allows boys and girls to play together in mixed teams. RCL's U12 all-girls team faced a challenging task, as their opponents were predominantly composed of boys. According to the organisers, they scored some “great tries”. RCL U15 beat Strasbourg but came second to an experienced Buffaloes side, who won their division.

Touch Rugby Head Junior, Lee O’Keefe, commented: “This tournament is part of our road to play competitive games against local Touch [rugby] clubs. It was great to see so many girls competing against the boys and holding their own. That is the beauty of touch [rugby] in that kids of different ages, sizes and abilities can play safely together. In fact, we have so many girls now playing in the junior club, we need more boys!”
