On Wednesday 8 November 2017, Marc Wengler, CEO of the CFL Group, and Marc Solvi, President of the Da Vinci non-profit association, presented their joint efforts in promoting the interest of young people aged 8 to 12 in technology and related trades.

In addition to explanations of the different workshops organised, one of the two 4000 series locomotives bearing the visual of the "Wëssensatelier powered by CFL" action and circulating on the rail network until the end of November has was presented at Luxembourg Gare.

Given the importance of promoting the interest of young students in the world of technology and related professions, the CFL Group aims to contribute to the reputation of the "Wëssensatelier Lëtzebuerg".

Since late 2016, the Da Vinci association a.s.b.l. and the CFLs organised, in close collaboration, a series of workshops allowing young people to take a look behind the scenes of the railway company.

Through the CFL Switch Station Simulator, students were able to discover the basic elements and fundamentals of how signaling, switching and safety systems function as key technological elements in the management of railway flows. The implementation and explanation of the theoretical part was carried out on the basis of a model train installation, arranged by the employees of the CFL.

These first impressions were completed by a second workshop in the cockpit simulator, an exact replica of a 3000 series locomotive.

Since the beginning of the partnership, 5 groups of young students have participated in the different activities. The CFL and the Da Vinci association will also be present with their respective stands during the 2017 edition of the Science Festival.
