On Saturday 20 February 2016, Kannernascht invited officials, parents, children and residents from the northern districts of Luxembourg City to discover new premises specially adapted to offer educational activities for young children.

Kannernascht was first established in 1985 and offers academic support and leisure activities to school children of all nationalities from the districts of Eich and Weimerskirch. It began to expand its offerings in September 2015 for children from the age of three, with lunch supervision during school periods.

Through the reception centre, the Association de Soutien aux Travailleurs Immigrés (ASTI) provides an opportunity for early learning of the Luxembourgish language through 'Kon-Lab'. Through a structured and regular process, early language learning is stimulated by means of games, stories, rhymes and songs, in connection with daily activities.

Other projects are also made available at the Kannernascht, including intercultural activities to showcase the native language, origin and culture of the children and their families as well as activities based on reading and leisure. During the holiday periods, outings and excursions involving the discovery of Luxembourg are arranged.

The Kannernascht thanked the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth for financing the first equipment, Luxembourg City for the development of its premises, and the International Bazaar, the Fondation Martine et Bertram Pohl and the Oeuvre Nationale de Secours Grande-Duchesse Charlotte for their financial support.

That same day, the Kannernascht held its traditional Open Day with support for children and parents. A buffet was provided, with specialities made by the participants, before a 'discovery' afternoon featuring short performances by Kannernascht children, and a raffle.
