In a festive atmosphere, the 17th edition of the Nuit des Musées held in Luxembourg city on Saturday evening was a spectacular success with 21,566 visits recorded (all participating museums), representing more than 26.73% increase compared to 2016 (17,017 visits).
The seven museums of the Stater Museum group opened their doors at noon for the 17th Museums Night under the sign "Museums connect". Seven journalists working for different Luxembourg media played the evening's guides and led the visitors on a participatory tour. Among the other events of the evening were the multidisciplinary artistic performances by four performing artists, which were broadcast live and are available on our Museumsmile Facebook page. A multitude of concerts, guided tours, workshops for children and gourmet surprises completed the programme of the evening.
Visitors were able to discover six new exhibitions that began the week before the Museum Night: Leit an der Stad. Luxembourg Street Photography, 1950-2017 at the Lëtzebuerg City Museum, Hans Hofmann at the National Museum of History and Art, 300 Jahre Maria Theresia - Woman with multiple crowns at the Dräi Eechelen Museum, Su-Mei Tse . Nested and Flatland / Narrative Abstractions # 2 at Mudam Luxembourg and Tine Guns, To Each His Own Mask at Casino Luxembourg. It was also the first Night of Museums for the new permanent exhibitions at the National Museum of Natural History and the Lëtzebuerg City Museum.
In order to make the night course as pleasant as possible for visitors, historic buses from Routemaster asbl and the Frënn vum ale stater Bus and the City of Luxembourg served the museums and art centres. BMW Muzzolini made available exclusive chauffeur-driven shuttle buses that drove night owls from the Museum Night to the seven participating museums.
The 18th edition of the Nuit des Musées is to be held on Saturday 13 October 2018, during the European Year of Cultural Heritage.
