Fourty-four museums across Luxembourg opened their doors for free last weekend, part of a tradition that goes back 20 years, welcoming more than 15,000 visitors.

Among them, four museums were participating for the first time, the Nature and Forest Biodiversum Center and the Valentiny Foundation in Remerschen, the Regional Museum of Forced Entries in Dudelange and the De Schmelzaarbeschter Iron and Steel Museum in Esch-sur-Alzette.

The initiative’s popularity has grown enormously over the years charting a 500% rise in visitor numbers since the inaugural year in 1998.

Among the special events organised this year, Luxembourg city saw a special guided tour through Casino Luxembourg, the Cercle Cité, the National Museum of History and Art and the Villa Vauban - Art Museum of the City of Luxembourg, with a special focus on European Photography Month.
