Today on 5 January 2018, the Luxembourg cabinet adopted the bill on the extension of Luxembourg Gare.

The adoption of this bill for the extension of Luxembourg’s main station forms a key element of the reorganisation of public transport towards a new era of mobility in the Grand Duchy. The extension will include, among other things, the construction of a new pedestrian bridge between the station and Bonnevoie.

Minister François Bausch commented that "the extension of Luxembourg Gare will considerably increase the capacity of the rail network and contribute to its stabilisation”. He added that: “A new step towards improving public transport has begun today”.

The works will be carried out in two main phases. Platform 5 (lane 11) will be put into service in December 2019, followed by the completion of the technical commissioning of platform 5’s lane 12 as well as platform 6’s lanes 13 and 14 in 2021.

The total investment in the project will be €171 million.
