The number of jobseekers in Luxembourg has decreased by 6.1% over one year.

The number of jobseekers registered with the ADEM was 16,599 as of 31 January 2018. Over one year, this represents a drop of 1,077 persons, or 6.1%. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate calculated by STATEC is 5.6%.

The decline is particularly beneficial for jobseekers under 30 (-8.1%) and low-skilled jobseekers (11.1%). Moreover, the number of long-term unemployed decreased by 9.2%. On the other hand, the number of jobseekers possessing higher education rose by 197 persons, or 6.8%.

Meanwhile, the number of beneficiaries of employment benefits was 5,019 as of 31 January 2018. Over one year, this represents a drop of 125 persons, or 2.4%. Nevertheless, following the legislative changes that took place in August 2017, there were significant variations in professional internships, where the number of beneficiaries more than quadrupled over a year, and compensated temporary jobs that saw the number of beneficiaries drop by 29.3%.

During the month of January 2018, employers reported 3,988 vacancies to ADEM, which is 20.3% more than in January 2017.
