It was a good day for Luxembourgish hockey, Kriibskrank Kanner (a local charity providing cupport for families of children with cancer) and USA hockey warriors; almost all of the 740 seats at the Patinoire (ice rink) in Kockelscheuer were used when Luxembourg Tornado and the hockey team of Spangdahlem Air Base played a charity game.
The game itself was controlled by Tornado. They kept the puck and created lot of scoring chances. Spangdahlem managed to have few counter attacks but scored 2 goals from them. Spangdahlem always also surprised with few body checks but Tornado’s decided to save them for the league games. Instead of playing a physical game, Tornado tried to focus on puck control which they had been practicing whole week. This led to some nice tic-tac-toe goals and also few nice individual efforts.
The end score was 6-2 for Tornado but, in the end, that was not the main point of the night. The thing was to play for a good cause, honour veterans and respect the relationship between Luxembourg and USA.
Thanks to the US Embassy for their initiative in making this event possible, an amazing experience for players and for the audience as well.
Tornado continue their well-started season after two weeks on Saturday 25 November, when Amiens will make a visit. They are looking forward to a large crowd of supporters in Kockelscheuer.
