In their second game of the Group B in the division III World Championships of ice hockey being played in Sofia, Bulgaria, this week, Luxembourg were up against a fancied Georgia side.

The first period ended level at 1-1, with Benny WELTER openign the scoring for the Luxembourg Lions on 13:29, before being begged back just 20 seconds before the period ended on minutes. Luxembourg upped the ante in the second period, with Marcus ERIKSSON scoring just 31 seconds after the re-start and then Robert BERAN five minutes later, before Colm CANNON scored on 36:39. However, just as at the end of the first period, Luxembourg conceded a goal to the Georgians with just 25 seconds left on the clock, to leave the score 4-2 going into the third and final period.

With just over 2 minutes gone in the third period, Georgia narrowed the score and got another goal to be just one behind Luxembourg, with everything to play for. Benny WELTER scored for Luxembourg with just three minutes remaining to open up a two-goal cushion. However, Georgia still had fight left and narrowed the gap to one goal just one minute later.

With 51 seconds left on the clock, Marcus ERIKSSON got his second goal of the match to leave the final score at Luxembourg 6, Georgia 4, but not before Georgia had three players binned for roughing, boarding and unsportsmanlike conduct, all with just 19 seconds left on the clock.

Having defeated the United Arab Emirates on Monday, Luxembourg have played two and won two, with the next match scheduled for Thursday against South Africa.
