Black 47, a film set in Ireland during the famine, will have its world premier during the Berlinale film festival taking place from 15 - 25 February 2018.

The film - previously known as "The Ranger" - is an Ireland - Luxembourg co-production and is directed by Lance Daly who also directed the comedy Life's a Breeze which was screened in Luxembourg during the British & Irish Film Season in 2013.

Black 47 stars Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk; The Killing of a Sacred Deer; Mammal - another Ireland-Luxembourg co-production), Hugo Weaving (the Matrix; the Hobbit; Hacksaw Ridge), Jim Broadbent (Another Year; The Iron Lady; Paddington 2; Bridget Jones's Baby) and a host of other household names.

It was co-produced by Samsa Film and part funded by Film Fund Luxembourg.

Synopsis: Set in Ireland during the Great Famine, the drama follows an Irish Ranger who has been fighting for the British Army abroad, as he abandons his post to reunite with his family. Despite experiencing the horrors of war, he is shocked by the famine's destruction of his homeland and the brutalisation of his people and his family.​
